About

Tiong Bahru is Singapore's oldest housing estate, put up from the 1920s by the Singapore Improvement Trust, which came before the Housing and Development Board, and its main estate is 54 walk-up blocks with more than 900 homes. Since the mid-2000s cafés and small independent shops have moved in among the pre-war buildings. The Tiong Bahru Air Raid Shelter is 340 m from the centre, and five hawker centres are within 800 m, Tiong Bahru Market and the Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre among them. Tiong Bahru station (East-West Line) is 220 m away and Havelock (Thomson-East Coast Line) 500 m.
